Originally from the SouthSide of Chicago, Amatus-sami Karim is the daughter of a Sharecropper from Mississippi and Muslim-Jewish mother. She came of age in Philadelphia and New York City, in the aftermath of losing family members to gun-violence. Amatus has been a working artist since her teenage years and has taught music programming and Theatre in NYC public schools. She is a MULTI-HYPHENATE ARTIST working as an ACTRESS, SOUND ARTIST, AND FILMMAKER. Her most recent projects include Executive Producing HBO’s Emmy-winning documentary, We Are the Dream: The Kids of the Oakland MLK Oratorical Fest (2020), Executive Producer for In Our Mothers’ Gardens for Netflix (2021), an Official Selection at the Tribeca Film Festival. Amatus is a Drama Desk Award nominee in sound-design/music for the production of Homecoming Queen (2018). Currently she is now collaborating on innovative storytelling for media platforms and just finished her first narrative short film as a writer/director, SIMPLE SOMEWHERE ELSE, 2025.

Amatus has been a working artist since high-school navigating the industry and a deep love of creating.
